- Identify the first law
- Identify another was we see the First Law of motion on a day to day basis
- Identify how this law relates to Roller Coasters
The First law
The First law of motion states that an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by an outside force and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force. We see the first law on a day to day basis. When a a car that is in motion brakes are the outside force that stops the moving car. When someone kicks a soccer ball that has been sitting on the ground we see that the soccer ball was at rest until someone kicked it. There is a huge list that goes on with the first motion if we just look around us!

Relation to roller coasters
When a Roller coaster is at the bottom of the hill are chain hooks on and pulls the train to the top of the hill. The first law is shown because the train waste rest until another force (the chain) acted on it to pull it up the hill. Another way that the First law is shown is when the ride is over and the train is slowed down, this shows the first law because the train is in motion until the brakes are applied and the train stops.
